STATE’S TOP PLAYERS IN TOWN THIS WEEK

Citizens First Holiday Classic Starts Wednesday

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Citizens First Holiday Classic presented by Martin Dodge-Jeep-Chrysler will be December 19-21, 2007 and is bringing some of the state’s best high school basketball players to town for tournament play.

Participating teams include Owensboro, Madisonville North Hopkins, as well as Bowling Green, Greenwood, Barren County, Todd County, Central Hardin, Cumberland County, Caldwell County, Grayson County, Pineville, and Hazel Green High School from Alabama.

Spectators can expect great competition from Owensboro’s Brock Moorman, a 6’4” senior forward, and Grayson County’s Travis Johnston, a 5’10” sophomore guard. Owensboro is pre-season pick number one in region three.

Madisonville’s Jonathan Hood, a top 25 prospect after playing with the Nashville Celtics AAU team this summer, has official offers from Georgia, Mississippi, Western Kentucky University, Middle Tennessee State University, and University of Kentucky while being looked at by Duke. Hood is a 6’7” junior guard and Madisonville is pre-season pick number one in region two.

In the thirteenth region, Pineville is shining with 6’6” senior center Dustin Day and 6’ junior guard J.D. Strange. Strange’s father, the head coach of Pineville, was once the head coach of Allen County and led them to the boys’ state tournament.

Central Hardin represents the sixth region with 6’3” senior forward Tony Harding. They face Cumberland County in their first game Wednesday night at 8 p.m.

Barren County and Bowling Green fell behind Franklin-Simpson and Warren Central in the pre-season region four picks, but Barren County’s Lee Hubbard, a 6’1” forward, and Bowling Green’s Jaren Nixon and Jared Carpenter are three players to watch.
